Charcoal Project! 15th May 2019

GALE have been collaborating with NTS Inverewe Garden & Estate making BBQ Charcoal and Artists Charcoal out of the invasive species Rhododendron Ponticum!

The project has involved GALE’s supported volunteer programme and they have been burning the remaining wood after extensive clearing, in a kiln in the forest; creating a sustainable, locally made product that’s now on sale in The GALE Centre. All the proceeds go towards supporting their Outdoor Learning Programme to fund more activities like this.

The Outdoor Learning Programme, in partnership with National Trust Scotland team, provide learning and enterprise placements for their Supported Volunteering service. This service enables young adults with disabilities to experience a real working environment while making a valuable contribution to their community.
