Children's Activities

There are children's sessions at Poolewe Swimming Pool including swim lessons and Parent and Toddler sessions. See the website for a timetable. Tel (01445) 781 345

Gairloch Leisure Centre, next to the school, runs various activities for children, including a summer programme, archery and a new climbing wall.

Of course, one of the main attractions of the area is the Great Outdoors and there are several providers of activities specially geared to younger visitors.The National Trust for Scotland at Inverewe Garden have a wide-ranging programme of activities for families during the holidays including seal searches, exploring the ponds, nature walks and art sessions. Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve has a Visitor Centre with an interactive display on the geology and wildlife of the area, and a short wildlife trail or longer woodland, ridge and mountain trails for older children. There are also events throughout the year which are listed on the website. Walk and Wild based at Melvaig offer family seashore wildlife activities such as rockpooling, seacaves and seabirds and seashore foraging. They also hold bat walks in Gairloch during the Summer. For more crafty activities Starbox Scotland based at Badachro offer the opportunity to design and create beadwork. They also host children's parties. For historical and cultural interest Gairloch Heritage Museum has interesting exhibits on crofting life and crafts with occasional events.

Children are welcome at the family ceilidhs held in Poolewe Hall during the Summer. The ceilidh is a traditional Scottish event involving music and sometimes dance. The Poolewe Ceilidhs run throughout the Summer months with a different visiting traditional band each week, together with local pipers, singers and musicians.
